Anyhow, 2010 has been an interesting year golf-wise for me.  I played quite well early on in the summer and eventually won the OPGA HeadPro-Assistant pro with Coppinwood Head Professional Dennnis Firth at the beautiful Sunningdale Golf Club’s Thompson Course in June.  I also had a strong showing at the OPGA Championship at  Barrie CC in July, finishing 5th after a second round 68.  I’ve always enjoyed that course.

Unfortunately, the real world took a hold of my game from there on in and I haven’t had much time to play or practice since the beginning of August.  I have been able to enjoy married life and have had weekends off for the first time in 18 yrs so I’d be lying if I said the summer was a total waste.  I’m hoping to tee it up in Bermuda at the Gosling’s Invitational at the end of November and then re-assess my golf goals moving forward after that.

As you can imagine, this had made all of us here at the club quite a lot busier than orignally planned, which is great for the club…but not so great for my golf game!  The last few events I’ve played in have been quite interesting to say the least.  I’ve hit the ball pretty well and putted better than I have in a long time yet find myself on the outside of the leaderboard wondering what went wrong. 

At the OPGA 2-Man Assistants on May 6th, my partner Jerry Hinds and I played well but left a few shots out there shooting an 11-under 61. Congrats to Dave Levesque and Nick Ariganello who fired a scorching 57 to take the title this year.  The following week I was out at the McBroom designed Firerock in London Ontario where after being 1-under through 4 holes I managed to make 5 straight bogeys to finish with a front-side 40 and never recovered, finishing with a 5-over 77.  I managed to follow that up with a stellar 78 at Silver Lakes the week after.  I will spare you the gory details of that affair but will commend my Caddy, Glenn Whitebread for keeping both me, and my clubs, intact for the last few holes…

Despite the poor play so far this year, this has been an exciting time for me as I am about to tie-the-knot in a couple of weeks.  For those of you have had the privilege of getting married, you’ll understand why my inabilty to make a birdie has not even come close to wiping the smile off my face. The big day is June 20th and I will not be participating in any competetive events until after the wedding.  My next event will be June 29th at Glen Eagle golf club.

Tomorrow is the first event of the OPGA Season as Jerry Hinds and I look to defend our OPGA Assistant’s Team Championship title at Angus Glen’s North Course. Last year the weather was bitterly cold but it looks like we’re in for a nice day tomorrow. Play begins with a 7:45am shotgun and you can find the scores here. 

Last Tuesday was the first event of the Great Lakes Tour season.  I played fairly poorly for the first nine holes and turned in a 3-over 39 at Grey Silo in Waterloo.  I found my groove a little bit on the back and came home in a 4-under 31 and finished T-7th.  Nick Mazze drained a 10-footer on the first playoff hole for a birdie and his first win as a porfessional.  Congrats to Nick.  You can check the full-field scores here.  The next event on the GLT schedule is next Tuesday, May 12th, at Firerock GC in Komoka, ON.
