October 27, 2010
Wow…Almost a year to the day since my last post. Sorry for that…any of you who still look at this thing. What a year it has been. I started a new job in January at a Bond Brokerage in Toronto working for my Caddy from qSchool…I guess I felt I owed him for doing such a great job. Although if he had of actually done a good job, I may have not needed to work for him in the end. A vicious cycle indeed.
Anyhow, 2010 has been an interesting year golf-wise for me. I played quite well early on in the summer and eventually won the OPGA HeadPro-Assistant pro with Coppinwood Head Professional Dennnis Firth at the beautiful Sunningdale Golf Club’s Thompson Course in June. I also had a strong showing at the OPGA Championship at Barrie CC in July, finishing 5th after a second round 68. I’ve always enjoyed that course.
Unfortunately, the real world took a hold of my game from there on in and I haven’t had much time to play or practice since the beginning of August. I have been able to enjoy married life and have had weekends off for the first time in 18 yrs so I’d be lying if I said the summer was a total waste. I’m hoping to tee it up in Bermuda at the Gosling’s Invitational at the end of November and then re-assess my golf goals moving forward after that.
I hope that you all are well…whoever you may be. Thanks for reading…and here’s hoping for more birdies than bogies in all our futures.
Cheers,
Andy

PGA Tour Qualifying School - 1st Stage, Round 1 Recap.
Well, as you might imagine, round one did not go the way I had hoped. Finishing Bogey-Bogey for a 4-over par 76 was definitely not what I had envisioned when the day started but there was a lot of positive moments in the round that I will look to build on going into this morning’s round #2. For starters, the Magnolia course at Pinewild CC is one of the toughest courses in the Pinehurst area, measuring out at 7500 yds from the back tees (and playing every bit of it with no roll at all). For the most part I drove the ball great all day (10/14 fwys) and was very accurate with my irons, hitting 13/18 greens in regulation, missing another 3 greens by only a couple of feet in the fringe. Unfortunately a balky putter at some inopportune times lead to a some stupid bogeys and now I’ve got a little more work to do than I had intended, but that’s golf! Onwards and upwards and hopefully the ball will start falling downwards. Wish me luck!

Dave Moro wins the Ontario PGA Championship (Holborn finishes a solid T-7th)
This week saw the provinces best club professionals battle it out at a blustery Barrie Country Club. After the dust had settled, Dave Moro of Credit Valley GC emerged as the victor after finishing with 4 birdies and an eagle in the last 12 holes to wind up at -5 for the tournament.
In his best all-round performance of the season, Andy finished tied for 7th, ending up at even par 144 after play had finished on Tuesday. “I played quite well this week and am very happy with my finish. I didn’t putt overly well on the always-difficult greens at Barrie, but I was pleased with the way I competed and am looking forward to the rest of the summer”.
For Holborn, the rest of the summer is coming fast with qualifying for the RBC Canadian Open taking place on Monday July 20th, the Coppinwood Invitational on July 27th, and the OPGA Assistant’s Championship in Early August.
Stay tuned and let’s all wish him luck as he continues to work towards PGA Q-School in the fall.
Until next time….swing easy.
Ladies and Gentlemen…thanks for visiting!
Tomorrow is the first event of the OPGA Season as Jerry Hinds and I look to defend our OPGA Assistant’s Team Championship title at Angus Glen’s North Course. Last year the weather was bitterly cold but it looks like we’re in for a nice day tomorrow. Play begins with a 7:45am shotgun and you can find the scores here.
Last Tuesday was the first event of the Great Lakes Tour season. I played fairly poorly for the first nine holes and turned in a 3-over 39 at Grey Silo in Waterloo. I found my groove a little bit on the back and came home in a 4-under 31 and finished T-7th. Nick Mazze drained a 10-footer on the first playoff hole for a birdie and his first win as a porfessional. Congrats to Nick. You can check the full-field scores here. The next event on the GLT schedule is next Tuesday, May 12th, at Firerock GC in Komoka, ON.

Thanks for visiting!!!
The idea behind launching my own website was to accomplish a couple of things: The first was to make it accessible for my students to book lessons online and eventually view their own profiles, lesson summaries, and videos in a password-protected area located in the instruction section. Online lesson booking is available now by clicking on the link at the bottom of the Instruction page. The second thing I hope to accomplish is to promote my playing career by offering my fans and sponsors the opportunity to follow my progress as I compete throughout the 2009 season and beyond. I will have links posted in this blog for scoring updates and tournament info. You can preview my playing schedule in the schedule section.
I invite everyone to visit all the sections of the site and don’t be afraid to contact me using the contact page if you have any questions regarding lesson booking, tournament info, sponsorship opportunities, or any general inquiries. Before I go, I’d like to thank Mandy Thomson of Fix My Sync for doing such a great job designing the site and getting it up and running!!
Thanks again for visiting andyholborn.com…please come again soon!
